Dr. Jeremy Bechelli – Principal Investigator
Dr. Bechelli completed his Ph.D. in Experimental Pathology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in 2016 under the direction of Drs. David H. Walker and Rong Fang. Jeremy studied the the innate immune response against rickettsiae in both human and animal models at UTMB while predominately working on animal models of Australian tick typhus (Rickettsia australis). Jeremy completed his M.S. in Microbiology and Immunology in the laboratory of Dr. Sanjeev Sahni at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry working on Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (Rickettsia ricketsii) in human endothelial cells. Dr. Bechelli has a particular interest in endothelial pathobiology as it relates to the blood-brain barrier and encephalitis. Current interestes include endothelial infection with a variety of tick borne infectious agents (bacterial and viral), and the inflammatory response against these unique pathogens.
